Locked away

This song was first written in 2019 through a songwriting program and I recently revisited the song over lockdown. With the help of my producer Aaron Saigh we re-recorded and re-worked the song, giving it some more depth and a better quality than the original recordings. The song can be interpreted from the perspective of lovers but was originally written about something very different.

The song is about rejection, specifically being rejected from university. While writing it I was able to really analyse the emotions and disappointment I felt at being rejected from my preferred university and was able to feel good about the direction that I went in instead. The song starts with a sad mood, reflecting the dejected feeling that I had at the time, going into the second verse there is a hope and a re-figuring of the plan that I had made for myself at the time. The end of the song shows how I am happier where I ended up and I hope to show with this song how even if plans change it’s sometimes for the better.
